The Ocean Springs School District is located in a suburban community of approximately 18,000 persons on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast. Life on the Coast slows down in Ocean Springs where there is time to stroll oak-draped streets - and discover secluded beaches. Ocean Springs is a community that embraces the arts and is the home of many local, state, and nationally recognized artists. The city offers a wealth of history, good Southern food, galleries, shops, beautiful bayous, and excellent schools. The district has kept pace with the residential and commercial growth of the Gulf Coast by the leadership of its five board of trustees who work to ensure that every student attends exceptional schools in a nurturing atmosphere and receives instruction from the best available educators.
The Ocean Springs School District aspires to be the best school district in Mississippi and one of the top ten percent in the nation. Over 600 dedicated personnel foster excellence in ACADEMICS, the ARTS, and ATHLETICS. At the beginning of the school year, the district’s enrollment was approximately 5,500 with one high school serving over 1,800 students.
Ocean Springs High School (OSHS) is a national test center for the ACT. OSHS administers the PSAT/NMSQT, the National Math Exam, the ASVAB, the National French Exam, the National Spanish Exam and various Advanced Placement exams, as well as the statewide subject area tests in Algebra 1, Biology 1, US History, and English II (with the writing component). Traditionally, Ocean Springs’ students rank in the top ten percent in the state on the statewide Subject Area Testing Program. Mississippi requires all high school graduates to pass the statewide exit exams prior to receiving a diploma. A level 5-high performing high school, OSHS also met the adequate yearly progress mandated by the U.S. Department of Education’s No Child Left Behind.
